Jr. Ruiz et al., PNEUMOCYSTIS-CARINII PNEUMONIA IN PATIENT S WITH SOLID-ORGAN TRANSPLANTATION - REPORT OF 5 CASES, Revista Clinica Espanola, 197(1), 1997, pp. 31-34
A report is made here of five patients who underwent solid organ trans
plantation, were not infected with the human immunodeficiency virus, a
nd suffered Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia while receiving immunosuppr
essive drugs, The figure represents a prevalence of 0.43% among patien
ts with solid organ transplantation at the Clinica Puerta de Hierro, S
ome features of this infection are reported in patients without AIDS,
both transplanted patients and with other clinical conditions, the pos
sible predisposing factors and the necessity to keep a high suspect in
dex when individuals treated with immunosuppressive drugs present with
respiratory symptoms, Likewise, a suggestion is made to consider the
use of cheoprophylaxis with cotrimoxazole in these cases.
