Abstract
The character of solidification in the zone of contact of the melt wit h mold wall plays an important role in the formation of castings macro structure. Two principal cases are considered: crystallites formed on mold wall are stable and do not separate subsequently: conversely, cry stallites appearing on the cooled surface separate and are transferred into the bulk of melt poured into, the mold. The results of this stud y could be useful for controlling the macrostructure of castings. henc e for upgrading their quality.
