Bec. Schreuder et al., ERADICATION OF CASEOUS-LYMPHADENITIS IN SHEEP WITH THE HELP OF A NEWLY DEVELOPED ELISA TECHNIQUE, Veterinary record, 135(8), 1994, pp. 174-176
The purpose of the study was to attempt to eradicate caseous lymphaden
itis in sheep with the help of serological monitoring. A newly develop
ed double-antibody sandwich ELISA and the culling of positive or doubt
ful reactors was the basis of the disease control regimen. Seropositiv
e pregnant ewes were kept in quarantine and removed after lambing; the
ir lambs were artificially fed aod allowed to remain in the herd. Unde
r this regimen, supplemented by a number of hygienic measures, caseous
lymphadenitis was eradicated from two large flocks of sheep in which
the disease was endemic.
