Dementia is a chronic and progressive impairment of some or all higher
functions of the brain. Dementia can be caused by at least 60 disorde
rs. The most representative is the dementia of the Alzheimer's type (D
AT) accounting for aproximately 50-60% of cases. Current methods of ne
uroimaging have revolutionized the examination of patients with dement
ia. Neuroimaging can be quite useful in confirming the clinical. asses
sment of the pattern of dementia and in further refining the diagnosis
. The present paper reviews then neuroimaging findings in dementia and
discusses their role.
