Abstract
A design technique is presented for coplanar waveguide monolithic bala nced amplifiers employing impedance-transforming lumped-distributed br anchline couplers. A synthesis procedure and design graphs are present ed for this type of coupler, which uses a combination of short transmi ssion-line sections and lumped capacitors. A two-stage balanced Ku-ban d MESFET amplifier using 50-to-15 OMEGA transforming couplers has been designed, with a chip size of only 2 mm x 1.7 mm, and the measured ga in is 13.7 +/- 0.2 dB over the range 14-16 GHz.
