Yc. Dai et P. Renvall, CHANGBAI WOOD-ROTTING FUNGI .2. POSTIA-AMYLOCYSTIS (BASIDIOMYCETES), A NEW POLYPORE SPECIES, Annales botanici Fennici, 31(2), 1994, pp. 71-76
A new polypore species, Postia amylocystsis Y.C. Dai & Renvall, is des
cribed, based on recent collections from the Changbai Mountain Range i
n northeastern China. The species is evidently a saprotroph that cause
s brown rot on fallen, decorticated trunks of deciduous trees. Thick-w
alled, hymenial cystidia and very narrow, allantoid spores are key cha
racters, distinguishing it from other species in the genus Postia Fr.
Amyloid reactions in the cystidia and in the uppermost contextual hyph
ae suggest a possible phylogenetic relationship to Amylocystis lapponi
ca (Romell) Singer, and cast doubt on the separation of the genus Amyl
ocystis Singer from Postia.
