EXCITATION OF INTENSE SHOCK-WAVES BY SOFT X-RADIATION FROM A Z-PINCH PLASMA

Experiments have been carried out on the excitation of shock waves wit h pressure amplitudes up to 3 Mbar by soft x radiation in lead. The pu lsed x radiation with a power level up to 2 TW/cm2 used for this purpo se was generated by the dynamic compression and irreversible heating o f the plasma in two-stage Z-pinch targets at the ANGARA-5-1 device. Th e experimental results are compared with the results of a numerical si mulation, which puts the brightness temperature of the plasma at about 80 eV.
