Syntheses and characterisation of [Co(eta5-C5Me4CH2CH2CH=CH2)(eta5-C2B
u2(t)P2)] and [Co2(eta5-C5Me4CH2-CH2CH=CH2)2(CO)(COPCBu(t))] are repor
ted. The former has been prepared by four different routes, resulting
from cyclodimerisation of Bu(t)C=P within the coordination sphere of c
obalt(I) and the mechanistic pathway for its formation is discussed. T
he latter results from addition of Bu(t)C=P to the Co=Co double bond o
f [Co2(eta5-C5Me4CH2CH2CH=CH2)2(CO)2]. Both complexes have been charac
terised by P-31{H-1}, C-13{H-1}, H-1 NMR and mass spectroscopic studie
