Ct. Supuran et al., CARBONIC-ANHYDRASE INHIBITORS .21. ARYLSULFONYLHYDRAZIDES AND THEIR CU(II) COMPLEXES ARE NONCOMPETITIVE ISOZYME-II INHIBITORS, Revue Roumaine de Chimie, 39(5), 1994, pp. 587-592
Aryisulfonylhydrazides were investigated kinetically by a stopped-flow
technique for the CO2 hydration reaction catalyzed by carbonic anhydr
ase (CA). A non-competitive type of interaction was evidenced, similar
ly with that of the classic inhibitors, the aromatic/heterocyclic sulf
onamides. Cu(II) complexes of tosylhydrazide on the other hand showed
a totally different coordination behavior as compared to the complexat
ion of Zn(II) within the enzyme active site. The three novel Cu(II) co
mplexes prepared here were characterized by standard procedures and pr
oved to be strong CA inhibitors.
