Abstract
We have investigated the relationship between the degree of isomorphic substitution in smectites and the green compression strength of sand- smectite-water mixtures. Such a relationship is expressed by a simple mathematical expression which allows the technological behaviour of sm ectites to be predicted from their degree of isomorphic substitution.
