Methods of representing segmented conductors in 2 dimensions are compa
red with 3 dimensional calculations, showing good agreement for a simp
le problem. The calculation of power dissipation is improved for the 2
dimensional approximation by adjustment of the material resistivity t
o compensate for three dimensional effects. The limitations of the 2 d
imensional analysis are demonstrated using, as an example, an inductio
n heating crucible.
