The time-stepping finite element method of analysis of motor drive tra
nsients is presented. A system composed of an electrical machine, semi
conductor inverter and control equipment is considered. The proposed m
athematical model includes: the FE equations of the electromagnetic fi
eld, the equations which define the connections of windings and invert
er elements, the motion equation, and the relations which describe the
control system. The approach is based on the simultaneous solution of
these equations. Special attention is paid to the movement simulation
m the FE method. Transients in the drive with permanent magnet synchr
onous motor and voltage inverter are analyzed.
