Abstract
Through the explicit calculation to the Gaussian effective potential i n the sine-Gordon model in (1+1) dimensions with the normal-ordering p rescription of renormalization, we find that the ''m'' in Coleman's fo rmalism in operator notation can be regarded as the renormalized mass.
