A. Sharma et Ms. Sharma, TOXIC EFFECT OF ZINC SMELTER EFFLUENT TO SOME DEVELOPMENTAL STAGES OFFRESH-WATER FISH, CYPRINUS-CARPIO (LINNAEUS), Journal of environmental biology, 15(3), 1994, pp. 221-229
Acute and chronic toxicity of zinc Smelter effluent to some developmen
tal stages of freshwater fish, Cyprinus carpio have been studied. Para
meters for acute toxicity such as LC50 values, maximum acceptance toxi
cant concentration (MATC), Threshold concentration and safe concentrat
ion were determined by using static bioassay method. Eggs of C. carpio
were found to be more sensitive to zinc effluent as compared to highe
r developing stages. Eggs reared in 50% zinc effluent showed abnormal
body structure. Juveniles of C. carpio reared under 20% zinc effluent
showed histological damage in liver and kidney.
