Abstract
Impairment of cardiac function in atrial fibrillation has been attribu ted to loss of atrial contraction and to a rapid ventricular rate. The results of this study suggest that irregularity of the ventricular rh ythm, independent of the ventricular rate, may also contribute to impa irment of cardiac function during atrial fibrillation.
