By comparing the double-charge-transfer spectra obtained as a result o
f double-electron-capture reactions of O2+ and OH+ projectile ions wit
h OCS molecules, it has been confirmed that reactions of O2+ with sing
let ground-state molecules result in triplet states of the dications b
eing populated. By examining the distribution of states populated usin
g the two projectile ions, it was deduced that the O2+ ions undergoing
the double-electron-capture reactions were in the a4PI(u) state and n
ot the X2PI(g) state.
