Objective: To report the occurrence of caval vein thrombosis and pulmo
nary embolism caused by pseudocyst formation in a patient with chronic
pancreatitis. Patient A 36-year-old man with chronic alcoholic pancre
atitis. Results: Pseudocyst formation adjacent to the inferior caval v
ein during an exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis was documented, as
was inferior caval vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Conclusion:
Pancreatic pseudocyst formation can cause inferior caval vein thrombo
sis and pulmonary embolism. The latter is a hitherto unreported compli
cation of chronic pancreatitis with pseudocyst formation.
