High-resolution and high-sensitivity instrumentation has been designed
and assembled for the study of vibrationally- and ratationally-resolv
ed luminescence from products of core-hole decay in molecules. The lum
inescence is produced by the interaction of a high-density molecular b
eam with either high-energy electrons or with monochromatic synchrotro
n radiation and is detected by a large-aperture 1-m spectrograph equip
ped with an intensified photodiode array.
