We present a water-cooled copper beam stop design for the 25-pole wigg
ler beam line at CHESS. Finite element thermal analyses and simulated
heat load tests indicate that the new design should be able to operate
safely at a machine current of 500 mA, absorbing 32 kW of total power
at a surface density of 400 W/mm2 normal to the beam. The basic desig
n can also be used for water-cooled masks and apertures on the high po
wer beam line.
