Km. Donaghy et Cn. Scholfield, CONCENTRATION-DEPENDENCE OF ADENOSINE AND THE PROTECTION OF RAT CORTICAL-NEURONS DURING ANOXIA, Brain research, 656(1), 1994, pp. 174-176
Aglycaemic/anoxic slices of rat olfactory cortex lose all electrical a
ctivity. On reoxygenation, 10 mu M adenosine enhanced recovery from 23
+/- 7% to 53 +/- 12%; an increased tissue endurance of 5-7 min. 100 m
u M adenosine slightly depressed recovery to 11.5 +/- 2.1%. Dipyridamo
le increased whereas adenosine deaminase reduced recovery. These obser
vations question the therapeutic effectiveness of high adenosine conce
ntrations.
