A parallel algorithm for direct solution of the three-dimensional Navi
er-Stokes equations using a spectral scheme has been developed and suc
cessfully implemented on a 3-processor multicomputer. The algorithm ut
ilizes the parallelism inherent in the spectral representation of the
Navier-Stokes equations. Communication between the processors has been
kept at a minimum, and most of the CPU time is dedicated to computati
on. The actual solutions on 323 and 643 grids have resulted in paralle
l efficiency of between 87.2% and 97.3%.
