Abstract
An analytical and experimental investigation is conducted to identify the effects of delaminations on the performance of surface-mounted pie zo-actuators on a cantilever beam. Two types of delaminations are cons idered: an edge delamination and an inner delamination. Results indica te that an edge delamination will reduce the structural coupling perfo rmance of the piezoactuator whereas an inner delamination has little d etrimental effect on the coupling performance. Furthermore, the edge d elamination will cause significant variations in the dynamic character istics of the composite beam whereas the effect of the inner delaminat ion is substantially less.
