A number of rods of varying diameters and different metals have been s
ubjected to the study of ultrasonic beam propagation, incident paralle
l to the axis of rod. The resulting ultrasound signal received after r
eflection, refraction and scattering has been experimentally observed
in air and at different levels of water surrounding the rod. Significa
nt effect is observed at lower frequencies and small diameter probes.
The effect is more pronounced in stainless steel and brass as compared
to mild steel rods.
