Over 12 months period (1992), 3 301 diarrhoeal patients originating fr
om central Tunisia were investigated for Campylobacter enteritis. Four
ty C. jejuni and three C. coli were isolated from fourty patients. Max
imum incidence was in infants. Most cases were identified in autumn an
d winter. Poultry and raw milk were the likely sources of contaminatio
n. Among drugs tested, erythromycin appeared the most efficacious. Dat
a suggest that Campylobacter may be an important cause of diarrhea in
central Tunisia.
