E. Siucinska et M. Kossut, PLASTICITY OF MYSTACIAL FUR REPRESENTATION IN SI CORTEX OF ADULT VIBRISSECTOMIZED RATS - A 2DG STUDY, NeuroReport, 5(13), 1994, pp. 1605-1608
LOCALIZATION of cortical representation of the common fur of mystacial
pads was mapped with 2-deoxyglucose autoradiography in adult rats aft
er vibrissectomy. Normal representation of mystacial fur was found in
locations outside the posteromedial barrel subfield (PMBSF). Vibrissec
tomy performed in young adult resulted in fur inputs activating the PM
BSF. This plastic change took more than two weeks and less than one mo
nth to complete.
