Jp. Montheard et al., DYES FOR NONLINEAR OPTICS PREPARED FROM 2-HYDROXYETHYL METHACRYLATE -NONLINEAR PROPERTIES OF THE RESULTING COPOLYMERS, Die Angewandte makromolekulare Chemie, 220, 1994, pp. 75-87
Dyes for nonlinear optics have been synthesized in two steps from 2-hy
droxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), 4-carboxybenzaldehyde and various subs
tituted anilines. The obtained dyes (aromatic imine esters of HEMA) ha
ve been copolymerized with styrene, the copolymers characterized by DS
C as well as IR, H-1 NMR and UV-VIS spectroscopy, and studied for thei
r nonlinear properties. The d31 and d33 nonlinear coefficients proved
to be dependent on the dye content of the copolymers and on the nature
of electrondonating groups.
