Callus cultures of Vicia faba L. were established using immature zygot
ic embryos and shoot apices of aseptically germinated seedlings. The c
alli induced on auxin-containing media (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid
, 2,4-D; a-naphthaleneacetic acid, NAA) were separated from the initia
l explants and subcultured in series. Regeneration of embryoids and sh
oot-bud primordia was observed on auxin-containing induction media as
well as after transfer of calli onto regeneration media supplemented w
ith cytokinins. The shoot-bud formation capacity was stable during the
long-term culture. Root formation was induced on various rooting medi
a and resulted in complete flowering plants.
