By using glass detectors in 4pi geometry we measured the spontaneous e
mission of carbon clusters from two sources of Fr-221 and 221(Ra + Fr)
produced at the on-line mass-separator ISOLDE at CERN, and obtained b
ranching ratios lambda(cl)/lambda(alpha) = (8.79 +/- 1.14) x 10(-13) a
nd (1.15 +-/ 0.91) x 10(-12) for Fr-221 and Ra-221 respectively. Such
results exhibit a one-order-of-magnitude hindrance in respect to even-
even father nuclei having the same penetrability for C-14 emission.
