Starch-gel electrophoresis was used to study hordein polymorphism in 2
28 spring barley varieties cultivated in the former USSR from 1929 to
1991. Twenty-nine alleles were revealed for the locus Hrd A, forty-eig
ht alleles were found for locus Hrd B, and four alleles were found loc
us for Hrd F. Allele frequencies varied from 0.04% to 53.90%. Hordein
variants encoded by the Hrd A, Hrd B, and Hrd F loci were catalogued a
nd genetic formulas of hordein were listed for all analyzed cultivars.
It was shown that a decrease of allelic diversity of Hrd loci occurre
d during the last thirty years.
