Abstract
The 3' flanking region of the apolipoprotein B gene (apoB) is polymorp hic due to a variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR). In a sample of 153 Siberian residents, 14 alleles were found. The most frequent allel es were HVE36 and HVE 34, with frequencies of P1 = 0.340 and P2 = 0.28 1, respectively. The distribution of allele frequencies in the Siberia n population sample was very close to distributions described earlier for this locus in various Caucasoid populations and differed from the distribution found in a sample of the Mongoloid population of Japan. T he heterozygosity index was 0.82.
