Mj. Power et al., THE DYSFUNCTIONAL ATTITUDE SCALE (DAS) - A COMPARISON OF FORM-A AND FORM-B AND PROPOSALS FOR A NEW SUBSCALED VERSION, Journal of research in personality, 28(3), 1994, pp. 263-276
In the first study, a combined sample of mature students, depressed an
d formerly depressed patients, and the patients first degree relatives
completed either Form A or Form B of the Dysfunctional Attitude Scale
(DAS). Factor analyses of the two sets of data suggest that, contrary
to the original proposals, the two versions of the DAS are not equiva
lent when a wide range of respondents are sampled. A second study pres
ents preliminary information about a 24-item DAS which can be used to
derive three subscale ratings related to Achievement, Dependency, and
Self-Control. It is proposed that such subscales may be the preferred
way of pursuing possible vulnerability factors rather than seeking mor
e global effects. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
