M. Wellner, ROAD TO FRACTALS IN A YANG-MILLS SYSTEM, Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics, 50(2), 1994, pp. 780-789
A numerical profile is presented of the SU(2) Yang-Mills system in 2+1
dimensions. A particular set of smooth analytic initial conditions le
ads in a finite time to approximate fractalization of the potentials,
fields, and energy density, plotted as functions of position. The syst
em is chosen to be uniform in one of the spatial directions. The centr
al result is a granulation (in one dimension) of the energy into a spr
inkling of particlelike peaks with, so far, some background energy lef
t over. The wave-number spectrum is found to spread very slowly in tim
e. A simple algorithm is proposed for monitoring its progress.
