Abstract
The importance of ionization as an intermediate channel in the capture
process H+ + H --> H + H+ is estimated by use of a simple model. It i
s found that for energies greater than about 40 keV the model predicts
that capture via ionization contributes significantly to the total ca
pture cross section.
