Abstract
The soft x-ray photoabsorption and total photoion yield spectra of ato mic Cu have been determined in the range of the L-edges. At the L2 and L3 thresholds there are clearly visible jumps in the absorption cross section. Superimposed on this step-like increase are weak but in part surprisingly sharp structures. The atomic data are compared both to H artree-Fock calculations and the soft x-ray absorption of copper metal .
