NEUTRINOS FROM SUPERNOVAE

The historic detection of neutrinos from supernova SN1987A demonstrate d that they are an invaluable source of information about neutrino pro perties and the dynamics of gravitational stellar collapse. A number o f experiments are currently being prepared for the next detection of t he supernova neutrino burst. This article reviews the data of SN1987A, the puzzles they presented and the lessons about neutrino properties that they provided. A special emphasis is put on the preparation for f uture detections and evaluation of an improvement in understanding bas ic neutrino properties that can be achieved.
