TOPOGRAPHY AND STRUCTURE OF THE EQUATORIA L SEGMENT OF THE MID-ATLANTIC RIDGE

The segment of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, limited at the North with Doldr ams fracture zone (6 degrees N) and with St. Paul fracture zone (1 deg rees N) at the South, conventionary named by us as Equatorial, was stu died in detail under international programme EQUARIDGE (7, 11, 12 crui ses of r/v ''Akademik Nikolaj Strakhov''). Complex of geological-geoph ysical survey was based on detail mapping of the topography of the Oce an Floor with multibeam echo sounder. Compilation of the maps in scale 1 : 250 000 and 1 : 1 min have been with computer. Data obtained show anomalous character of structure of the Equatorial segment: relativel y narrow axial rifted zone and plateau like type of wide flancs probab ly of nonspreading or diffuse-spreading origin.
