Abstract
We have measured radial velocities of infrared photospheric lines obse rved in 37 bright carbon stars. The spectra were obtained on the Kitt Peak National Observatory 4 meter telescope with Fourier transform spe ctrometers between 1976 and 1988. The observations have a typical reso lution of 65000 and a typical signal-to-noise ratio of 50. All the spe ctra cover the 2.0-2.5 mum K band with a substantial subset of observa tions covering the 1.6-2.5 mum region (H and K bands). For all 37 spec tra, we have measured velocities of 9 Ti I lines in the K-band, as wel l as velocities of the CO second overtone (DELTAv=3) in 28 of these st ars and velocities of the high excitation (high J) CO first overtone ( DELTAv=2)line in 27 stars. Photospheric optical velocities of both mol ecular (CN) and atomic absorption lines are compared here with the vel ocities of photospheric infrared lines.
