Abstract
This paper deals with the problem of designing a flexible production s ystem by simultaneously introducing both component part commonality an d process flexibility. The basis for setting a goal is presented for c omponent part standardization and for improving the production process through analysing the interrelationship between the component part co mmonality and process flexibility in terms of manufacturing performanc e in the fabrication/assembly process.
