MODULAR FIXTURE DESIGN - A DESIGNERS ASSISTANCE

This paper presents software to assist the tool designer of modular fi xturing assembly. The software comprises a knowledge-based Adviser, a fixturing component assembly program and a CAD system. The Adviser ass ists the tool designers in selecting components from a modular fixturi ng system (MFS). The fixturing component assembly program will then po sition and assemble the modular fixturing components. The final assemb ly is then displayed in the CAD system. An example is also included to demonstrate the working principle of the software.
