In 1992, comparison measurements of two standard hydrometers were carr
ied out by the Hungarian National Office of Measures (OMH, Budapest),
the Osterreichisches Bundesamt fur Eich- und Vermessungswesen (BEV, Vi
enna) and the Laboratories ''Density'' (at Ilmenau) and ''Liquid Prope
rties'' (in Braunschweig) of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt
(PTB). It was the aim to ascertain to what degree the hydrometer link
-up measurements of these laboratories correspond. All participating l
aboratories used the Cuckow method of hydrostatic weighing of the hydr
ometers immersed up to the calibration points in a liquid of known den
sity, the uncertainties of measurement achieved ranging between 0,03 k
g. m-3 and 0,05 kg . m-3. The scale intervals of the hydrometers are 0
,1 kg . m-3. The measurement results are in good agreement; they devia
te only within the uncertainties stated by the laboratories.
