Abstract
We discuss a scheme to perform quantum nondemolition (QND) detection o f single optical or millimeter-band photons by observing the deflectio n of a beam of atoms flying close to an open dielectric resonator. Our analytical calculations take account of spontaneous emission and reso nator losses.
