A. Sivropoulou et M. Arsenakis, TRANSFORMED-CELLS PRODUCING THE GLYCOPROTEIN-D OF HSV-1 ARE RESISTANTTO INFECTION WITH CLINICAL STRAINS OF HSV, Archives of virology, 137(3-4), 1994, pp. 397-404
The generality of the resistance exhibited by gD producing cells to HS
V-1 infection was tested. We tested three different cell lines produci
ng various amounts of gD for resistance against three HSV-1 strains. T
he strains used were the prototype laboratory F strain and two recentl
y isolated low passage local clinical strains, V-G and V-D. The result
s indicate that : (i) the resistance of the cell lines is directly rel
ated to the amount of go they produce, (ii) the cell lines showed grea
ter resistance against the two local clinical HSV-1 strains than again
st the laboratory strain, and (iii) the resistance is not mediated at
the level of virus adsorption to the cell membranes.
