Vapour-grown carbon fibres are produced by pyrolitic decomposition of
a hydrocarbon vapour that yields carbon filaments produced by a specif
ic catalytic process, in which the presence of hydrogen in the reactor
atmosphere plays a dominant role. A simple algebraic model of their s
trength allows their mechanical properties to be characterized.
