Some new Schiff base derivatives of aluminium having the general formu
la (OPr(i))(3-n)Al[O(NH2)C:NN:C(CH3)R]n (where n=1,2 and 3; R=C4H3O, C
4H3S, C5H4N and C10H7) have been synthesised by the reactions of semic
arbazones of the methyl ketones of heterocyclic aromatic compounds wit
h aluminium isopropoxide in stoichiometric ratios in refluxing benezen
e. The replacement reactions of isopropoxy aluminium (III) derivatives
with tert.butanol have also been studied. All these derivatives have
been characterised by conductance measurements, elemental analysis and
molecular weight determination. Their probable structures have been p
roposed on the basis of infrared and H-1 NMR spectral studies.
