Abstract
A new method for the design of optical multilayer systems is presented . A genetic algorithm is introduced to search for the optimal paramete rs of the system. The basic theory of genetic algorithms as well as th eir application to the design of optical coatings is described. The pr oblem of the synthesis of a rejection filter is solved and a compariso n with the inverse Fourier transform method is made.
