The present paper describes an investigation of roll bonding an AlZn a
lloy to mild steel. Application of cross shear roll bonding, where the
two equal sized rolls run with different peripheral speed, is shown t
o give better bond strength than conventional roll bonding. Improvemen
ts of up to 20-23% in bond strength are found and full bond strength i
s obtained at a reduction of 50% whereas 65% is required in case of co
nventional roll bonding. Pseudo cross shear roll bonding, where the cr
oss shear effect is obtained by running two equal sized rolls with dif
ferent speed, gives the same results.
