W. Lapkowski et M. Pietrzyk, SOME ASPECTS OF PLASTIC-DEFORMATION OF METAL-ALLOYS IN PARTLY LIQUID-STATE, Journal of materials processing technology, 45(1-4), 1994, pp. 365-370
The work described in this paper is connected with Authors' earlier re
search on the formability of alloys in partly liquid state, i.e. at th
e temperatures exceeding their solidus points. Three aluminium based a
lloys of a relatively large crystallization temperature range have bee
n used as the testing materials. The investigation focused on the effe
ct of the liquid fraction (weight percentage of liquid component in th
e alloy, pre-heated to the temperature above its solidus point) on the
parameters of the plastic deformation. The process of upsetting of th
e cylindrical specimens is investigated. The prime objective of the wo
rk is to determine the factors which affect the softening of various a
lloys subjected to deformation in partly liquid state. An attempt of t
he generalization of the problem is done. Thermal-mechanical finite el
ement model developed for the compression process and adapted to the p
artly liquid conditions is used for the calculation of the deformation
parameters.
