A parametric representation of the yield surface in principal stress s
pace is used to formulate constitutive equations for plane-stress plas
ticity of orthotropic sheets. The yield function and the associated fl
ow rule are analysed by taking account of the orientation of the princ
ipal stress axes, and conditions for internal consistency of the model
are derived. Based on this general framework, an orthotropic yield cr
iterion is proposed, and implemented in calculations of sheet-metal fo
rming processes.
