Abstract
Mathematical modelling and computer simulation are widely used to deep en understanding of metal rolling processes; much effort has been plac ed in the integration of thermal, mechanical and metallurgical phenome na in modelling. Whilst thermal and mechanical aspects are reasonably widely understood, the metallurgical phenomena leave many people baffl ed and appear to require considerable study to develop an insight. Thi s work attempts to address this problem by displaying the metallurgica l prediction of a rolling process model as microstructural changes in the cross-section of the stock being rolled. It is hoped that by devel oping an engaging presentation of information, non-metallurgists will be encouraged to take a greater interest in the microstructural aspect s of metal rolling.
