Js. Lee et al., APPLICATION OF PHYSICAL MODELING, FEM AND KNOWLEDGE-BASED PROCESS PLANNING PROGRAM TO FORGING PROCESS DESIGN, Journal of materials processing technology, 45(1-4), 1994, pp. 709-714
In order to develop the forging process for a cup-shaped product, thre
e methods for process modeling and design have been applied. As an exp
erimental approach, physical modeling with plasticine has been perform
ed. A commercial FEM code DEFORM and a knowledge-based process plannin
g program have also been used as computational methods. Partial forgin
g technique has been proposed to forge a large forging with a capacity
-limited machine and verified with the above process modeling and desi
gn methods. It has been found that the proposed forging process is fea
sible in the modelings. The actual forging of this product has been su
ccessfully performed proving that these approaches are reliable in dev
eloping the forging processes with efficiency and low cost.
